This page contains links to routes for each category in the game, as well as links to pages for every galaxy.

Main Categories

These are the main categories listed on the leaderboards at speedrun.com/smg2. Currently, both the use of a second wiimote (2p) and the use of banktoad are allowed for all main categories.

To download splits for these routes, follow a link, click the "Export" dropdown on the left side of the page, and choose your timer program.

Any%

The goal of Any% is to beat the game with no additional restrictions. This requires collecting 70 stars to unlock the final galaxy, Bowser's Galaxy Generator, and collecting the grand star in that galaxy to complete the game.

Older Route - Does Supermassive 1 instead of Honeybloom 1, which can be a hard level to do quickly for beginners

120 Stars/242 Stars

The goal of 120 Stars is to collect all 120 normal stars in the game (excluding green stars) and then collect the grand star in Bowser's Galaxy Generator to complete the run. Because that grand star must have already been collected to access all 120 stars, this means the level must be completed twice in the run.

The goal of 242 Stars is to collect all 242 stars in the game. Collecting the grand star in Bowser's Galaxy Generator again at the end is not required. Because collecting the 120 normal stars is required in order to access any green stars, the routes for 120 stars and the routes for 242 stars are equivalent up to that point.

Green Stars

The goal of Green Stars is to collect all 120 Green Stars starting from a file that has already unlocked the ability to collect green stars by completing the requirements of a 120 Stars run. It does not require completing the Grandmaster Galaxy at the end of the run. Although this is nearly equivalent to the green stars portion of the run done in a 242 Stars run, this category can be done slightly faster in isolation due to the post-level textbox mechanic. If your 120 Star file already has 9999 starbits and 9999 coins collected, the textboxes after each level totaling the starbits or coins you collect from each level will not appear. This technique is currently allowed in Green Stars runs.
